What would it mean for you to afford that house finally, provide a stable and comfortable environment for your family, or have comprehensive and affordable health coverage for you and your loved ones?

Our contract expired on December 31, 2024, and Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC has yet to respond seriously to any of our key demands regarding severe recruitment and retention cases, competitive wages, better benefits, and fairness at work.

Winning competitive wages for our work, securing better benefits for ourselves and our families, and achieving fairness at work can only be achieved when all of us come together as a union at the lab.

Many of our coworkers across Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory are filling out this strike commitment form to pledge to vote for and participate in a strike if lab management continues to refuse to take our demands—and their legal obligations—seriously.

To win the contract we deserve, we have to be willing and prepared to strike, just like we’ve seen our fellow union members across University Professional and Technical Employees CWA Local 9119 (UPTE CWA 9119) at the University of California system and elsewhere, including the 2023 United Auto Workers strike at the three unionized U.S. automakers—Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Stellantis (formally known as Chrysler).

Commit to strike!

Read our priorities to win a strong contract at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory below

  • It’s time to face the facts: our wages, significantly lower than the prevailing rates, undervalue the hard work and dedication we put in. This disparity is causing a severe recruitment and retention crisis, with an estimated 15 percent turnover rate since 2023.

We must fight to ensure that all employees are appropriately classified and have a clear path for career progression. We must push for creating and strengthening specialty pay for those with specialized skills, certifications, clearances, and those working shifts.

  • Lower healthcare costs, increased 401(k) contributions, better paid time off, and improved holiday pay are not luxuries; they are necessities for our well-being and financial security. We must unite and demand these essential improvements as we head into contract negotiations.

  • We must create transparency and fairness in Davis–Bacon and overtime work assignments. It’s time to strengthen our contract to ensure we have a greater say in scheduling, training, safety, and workplace conditions. We must also reinforce the language in our contract to protect bargaining unit work, guarantee due process, and secure job stability. Increasing our union rights and presence in the workplace is vital.

Join us in ensuring that everyone working at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is treated with the respect and dignity we deserve!

Since joining University Professional and Technical Employees CWA Local 9119 (UPTE) in 2006, we have focused on winning better working conditions, supporting lab workers, and pushing for transparency to address pay disparities at the lab. However, LLNL policies have recently made laying off workers without recourse easier. We encourage you and your colleagues to join us, share your experiences, and advocate for a fairer and safer workplace.
