Welcome to UPTE, our union at UC

As you and your colleagues at transition into your new employment with the University of California, we are sure you have a lot of questions and perhaps some concerns. The good news is you aren't in this alone

As part of this transition, you are joining over 18,000 UC workers as members of our union, University Professional & Technical Employees (UPTE). We represent licensed healthcare practitioners who provide clinical and medical services at UC's medical and student health centers, research staff who advance science for the common good in UC's laboratories, and the diverse range of professionals who provide the technical expertise to make UC's healthcare, research, and academic work possible.

UPTE is committed to ensuring your rights, working conditions, and wages are protected at every step. We have worked hard to secure agreements with UC that ensure no one will have their pay reduced, prior seniority will be recognized, and that we have a role in ensuring people's new titles accurately reflect their work and contributions. Incoming employees will receive a $750 sign-on bonus as part of the transition.

We'll be sharing more information and scheduling in-person meetings in the coming weeks to answer more questions, but you can find some frequently asked questions here

We are preparing to enter negotiations for our next contract with the University of California in June. From April 4 - 18, over 9,000 UPTE members voted overwhelmingly to ratify our contract platform, which lays out our priorities and aspirations for our next contract. We invite you to share your thoughts and priorities with us by filling out a survey and membership application

We'll be sharing more details and information in the coming weeks. In the meantime, if you need immediate assistance, please let us know.
